VOLUNTEER with the American Red Cross
WHO ARE RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS?
We are people who help with a single event or several times a month. Some of us have been involved in our communities for 10, 20, even 80 years or more - providing lifesaving services and leadership and helping to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We represent our communities, and we speak many languages. We are all different ages and ethnicities. Join us!
The East Texas Piney Woods Chapter has many opportunities available for local volunteers, contact us to find out how your knowledge, skills, abilities and enthusiasm can be matched with a meaningful volunteer experience.
Emergency Services

Carry pager on a rotating basis to assist with messages for armed forces personell

Create and maintain donor and volunteer lists

File contact records for fires, military contacts and other emergencies

Help organize local Emergency Services course material for class participants

Maintenance of Red Cross building and grounds

Maintenance of Red Cross vehicles
Mass Care
- Provide supervision and administrative support for Red Cross responsibilities at the shelter. Ensure the needs of shelter occupants are being met.
- Ensure all shelter occupants are registered upon arrival. Maintain and manage system for checking occupants in and out when they leave.
- Supervise on-site food preparation and service the shelter residents and workers. Ensure food ordering system is in place. Keep accurate records of food and supplies.
- Supervise health services staff, maintain records and coordinate 24-hour coverage in shelter.
- Provide mental health services at the shelter for residents and staff.
- Provide access to factual information relative to the disaster. Post location and hours of Red Cross centers and other organizations that offer assistance. Set up bulletin boards and hold shelter meetings.
- Shelter Logistics Coordinator to secure all provisions for the shelter operation.
- Volunteer recruitment and placement.
Office
- Field phone calls
- Help with bulk mailings, i.e.: fold, stuff letters, sort and process bulk mail
- Organize file cabinets
- Organize and label office supplies
- Update physical inventory list
Health & Safety Services
- Instructor for First Aid/CPR/AED classes
- Assist with Health Fairs
- CPR and/or First Aid Demonstrations
- Data entry (must be a consistent volunteer)
- File/audit course record forms
