HOME TOWN HEROES

The East Texas Piney Woods Chapter of the American Red Cross will soon undertake its annual signature fund raising event, the "Hometown Heroes" campaign.  This is a grassroots community campaign designed to increase public awareness of the services provided by the Red Cross, and to encourage local donations to the East Texas Piney Woods Chapter so that we may continue to provide these services. Any individual, company, group or association contributing $1,000.00 or more for the chapter will be recognized as a Hometown Hero.

American Red Cross Disaster services are provided to victims of disaster.  Most have lost their material possessions and are homeless due to house fires or weather related events.  Assistance may include temporary shelter, clothes, shoes, food, medical prescriptions and eyeglasses.  Last year your local Red Cross responded to an average of one house fire every three days.

This past year emergency communications were made on behalf of 318 local military families here in East Texas.  Emergency services to military families include emergency communications during illness, death or other family crisis, financial assistance to military personnel, and counseling and referrals to soldiers and their families.

The core of American Red Cross Emergency Services is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by a crisis or disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently. Although we are mandated by Congress to provide these services, we receive no government funding and rely solely on local public support to carry out this role.

By participating in our Hometown Heroes campaign you not only will be a vital part of the lifesaving work of the Red Cross but you will also receive recognition in a full page advertisement in the Longview News Journal.

All donations remain here to provide services to residents in these counties,  the East Texas Piney Woods Chapter serves Gregg, Upshur, Camp, Panola, Harrison, Rusk and Shelby countiesPlease make your check payable to the "East Texas Piney Woods Chapter of the American Red Cross" and return it to 1604 East State Hwy. 31, Longview, TX 75604.

Together, we can save a life.
