Disaster Services

 

Course Description and Prerequisities

 

Community Services Training-

Disaster Services is pleased to announce the release of the new

Disaster Services: An Overview course.  This instuctor-led basic

level course provides an introduction to Disaster Services and

engages participants through the use of integrated video and

interactive activites. 

Course Purpose- The purpose of this course is to provide

information about ways volunteers can help their community

prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters.

Participants- Participants will be volunteers and employee of the

Red Cross and other agencies and community leaders who wish to

serve in or work with Community Services group activities on a

disaster relief operation.

 

Shelter Operations Training -

Course Purpose - The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services

training is to prepare volunteers and employees of the Red Cross and

other agencies to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations

as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a

disaster.

Participants - Participants will be volunteers and employees of the Red

Cross and other agencies and community leaders who will be working

on shelter operation teams.

Required - Successful completion of the following course:

   

        Disaster Services: An Overview

 

Family Services Training -

Course Purpose -  The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the

Family Services function.  You will learn skills and tools needed to conduct

an effective client interview. Client interviews are conducted to determine

the type of services that should be provided to meet the clients' needs.

Participants - Participants will be volunteers and employees of the Red

Cross and other agencies and community leaders who will be interviews

on local and national assignments.

Required - Successful completion of the following course:

 

          Disaster Services: An Overview

 

Foundations of Disaster Mental Health -

Course Purpose - The purpose of this basic level Disaster Services trainnig

is to prepare licensed mental health professionals to provide for and respond

to the psychological needs of people across the continuum fo disaster prepared-

ness, response and recovery.

Participants - Partiipants will be licensed mental health professionals who are

condisdering becoming involved in Red Cross disaster mental healt (DMH)

preparedness, response and recovery activities at their local chapter and on

national relief operations.

Required - Mental health professionals with a current state license, to include:

counselor, marriage and family therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, RN with

psychiatric nursing experience and trainingbeyond the normal rotation required

for an RN, social worker.

If you are located in Bowie, Cass, Franklin, Marion, Miller, Morris, Red River or Titus Counties please contact the Texarkana Chapter.
