Our Mission

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement. It is the mission of the American Red Cross to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Our Chapter

Our Chapter has been providing emergency services to victims of disaster throughout our jurisdiction since 1917.  In addition to victims who require financial assistance to recover from a disaster, our chapter also assists victims of disaster with food, shelter, mental and physical and mental health care and referrals.  We complete our mission of helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies through Health and Safety Training, Armed Forces Emergency Services, and Disaster Preparedness Education.

The East Texas Piney Woods Chapter of the American Red Cross has 250 volunteers providing services to our local community.  Without their dedication and compassionate spirit, services would be severely limited.  From July 2007 through June 2008, the hours worked by these volunteers totaled more than 32,000 hours.

Many Volunteers take after-hours calls for Disaster Services and Armed Forces Emergency Services, while some give their evenings and weekends to teach CPR and First Aid classes.
